Brown Sugar Cake Recipe




1½ soft butter or brown butter

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup whole milk


2 cups light brown sugar

3 cups all-purpose flour

5 eggs

1 cup chopped walnuts with a little extra for decoration if desired

1 tsp Baking powder


½ teaspoon salt

8 ounces caramel chips

Caramel sauce for topping (homemade or canned)



1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C) and grease a 10-inch baking sheet pan .


2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, light brown sugar and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

3.Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

4. In a separate bowl, stir together all-purpose flour, baking powder and salt.

5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the whole milk.Start and end with the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.

6. Gently fold in the caramel pieces and chopped pecans.


8 Pour the dough into the prepared form and smooth the surface.

9.Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

10. Allow the cake to cool in the tin for 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

11. Once the cake has cooled completely, drizzle the caramel sauce over it if desired.Garnish with additional nuts if desired.

12. Slice the delicious brown sugar sponge cake and serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
