Crème Brûlée Overnight French Toast




– 1 loaf of French bread, cut into 1 inch thick pieces

– 5 large eggs

– 1 cup half and half


– 1 cup whole milk

– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

– 2/3 cup granulated sugar, plus a little extra for garnish

– 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

– 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg


– 1/4 cup unsalted butter

– maple syrup, for serving


1. Generously A 9 x Butter 13-inch baking dish. Arrange the baguette slices in a single layer on the plate,

overlapping them slightly if necessary.

2. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, half the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, 2/3 cup sugar, cinnamon and


nutmeg.Beat until well mixed.

3. Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, making sure all the bread is soaked. At this point, if you wish, you

can whisper sweet encouragement to help the toast get more soaked.

4.Cover the dish with cling film and leave everything to marinate in the fridge overnight so that the flavors can

get to know each other well.


5. The next morning, preheat the oven to 175°C. Remove the plastic wrap because it’s showtime for the French

7. Bake for 35-40 minutes until the toast is puffed and golden brown like a sunny, crisp autumn morning.

additional sugar and fry briefly until the sugar caramelizes and creates a delicious crunch.

9. Serve with a side of maple syrup and one of the toppings recommended above.

– For a dairy-free version, replace half and milk with your favorite plant-based alternatives, such as almond or


coconut milk.

– For a more elegant touch, you can refine the cream with orange peel or a splash of bourbon.- Don’t skip the

overnight soak – it really ensures that every bite of your French toast is creamy and full of flavor.
