• 4 tablespoons hot water (or as needed)
Instructions
In a large measuring cup, combine milk and boiling water. Add a teaspoon of sugar and the yeast. Stir it gently
and then leave it in a warm place to activate the yeast (aka foam).
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, remaining sugar and salt.Using your fingers or a pastry blender, cut in the
butter until it resembles crumbs.
Add the egg (quickly whisk) and the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and stir until a soft dough forms. This
usually requires about 5 minutes of mixing time.
Place the dough on a lightly floured work surface and knead for about 5 to 10 minutes. It should feel springy and
small bubbles should form under the surface. Place it back in the bowl, cover with a cloth or plastic wrap, and let

it sit until it has doubled in size, about an hour.Once the dough has risen, place it on the work surface and cut it
into 4 pieces. Pull one piece at a time into a long rope about 1 to 1 1/2 inches wide. Cut strips about a centimeter
long, form them into balls with your hands and place them on a baking sheet or rack to wait.
Cover the holes in the donuts with a towel to allow them to rise while you heat the oil to 375°F.
Place the donuts in the oil and fry until golden brown, about 2 minutes on each side.Make sure to only fry a few
of them at a time so they don’t clump or stick.
Drain on a paper towel or place on a cloth before glazing. Make sure you glaze them warm or they won’t get the
delicious topping!
