Homemade Tart Crust

This easy tart dough recipe creates a buttery, flaky base perfect for sweet or savory tarts. Just 4 core ingredients and 30 minutes of chill time stand between you and bakery-quality results!

Ingredients:

  • 200 g all-purpose flour

  • 100 g cold butter, cut into cubes

  • 1 egg

  • 1 pinch of salt

  • 2 tbsp cold water (only if needed)

Instructions:

  1. Cut Butter into Flour
    In a mixing bowl, blend the flour and salt. Add cold butter and mix using your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. Add Egg
    Add the egg and mix until a dough starts to form. If it feels dry, add 1–2 tablespoons of cold water gradually.

  3. Chill the Dough
    Form the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.

  4. Roll Out
    On a floured surface, roll out the dough to fit your tart tin. Gently press into the tin and trim excess.

  5. Pre-Bake (Optional)
    For a pre-baked crust, prick the bottom with a fork, line with parchment, and fill with pie weights. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 15 minutes, then remove weights and bake for another 5 minutes.
