- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease dish.
- Brown meat with onions and garlic. Drain and season.
- Layer potatoes, meat, and cheese in dish. Repeat, finishing with cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake 45–50 minutes.
- Remove foil, bake 10–15 minutes more until golden.
- Let rest 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
Use lentils or mushrooms for vegetarian version.
Swap cheeses for variety.
Freeze leftovers up to 2 months.
