Ingredients
  

  • For the Onion:
  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • Vegetable oil
  • For the Sauce:
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp horseradish
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp cayenne

Equipment

  • Knife
  • - Mixing bowls
  • Deep fryer or pot
  • Slotted spoon

Method
 

  1. Cut onion into “blooming” petals.
  2. Mix flour + seasonings. Whisk eggs + milk.
  3. Dredge onion in flour, egg wash, then flour again.
  4. Fry in hot oil (375°F) until golden and crispy.
  5. Mix sauce ingredients.
  6. Serve warm with dipping sauce.

Notes

Best with large sweet onions.
Can be air-fried for lighter version.
Serve immediately for maximum crispiness.
