Texas Toast Sloppy Joe Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • Sloppy Joe Meat
  • - 2 lbs ground beef
  • - 1 medium onion diced
  • - 1 green bell pepper diced
  • - 3 cloves garlic minced
  • - 1 cup ketchup
  • - 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • - 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • - 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • - 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • - 1 tsp paprika
  • - 1/2 tsp salt
  • - 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • ### Texas Toast & Topping
  • - 8 slices Texas toast
  • - 4 tbsp unsalted butter softened
  • - 1 tsp garlic powder
  • - 2 cups shredded cheddar
  • - Fresh parsley chopped (optional)

Method
 

  1. Brown beef with onion and pepper in a large skillet; drain fat.
  2. Stir in garlic; cook 1 minute. Add ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire, mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer 8–10 minutes.
  3. Heat oven to 400°F (200°C). Mix butter with garlic powder; spread on both sides of Texas toast. Bake 5–6 minutes, flipping once.
  4. Spoon sloppy joe mixture onto toast, top with cheddar. Bake 3–4 minutes to melt.
  5. Garnish with parsley and serve hot.

Notes

For less sweetness, cut brown sugar to 1–2 tbsp and add 1 tsp vinegar.
- Use ground turkey or a beef/turkey mix for lighter results.
- Add beans or mushrooms to stretch for a crowd.
