Classic Swiss Steak with Rich Tomato Gravy

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs round steak, cut into serving pieces

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped

  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, with juice

  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce

  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning (optional)

 Directions

 1. Prepare the Steak

  • In a shallow dish, mix flour, salt, and pepper.

  • Dredge each steak piece in the mixture, pressing to coat well.

 2. Brown the Meat

  • In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat.

 3. Sauté the Veggies

  • In the same skillet, add onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and garlic.
