Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 slices of ham
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your preferred type)
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry:
    • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to smooth out any creases.
  3. Add the Filling:
    • Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard over the puff pastry sheet, if using.
    • Evenly layer the ham slices over the mustard.
    • Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the ham.
  4. Roll and Slice:
    • Carefully roll the puff pastry sheet tightly into a log, starting from one of the longer edges.
    • Use a sharp knife to slice the log into 1-inch thick pinwheels.
  5. Prepare for Baking:
    • Place the pinwheels on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each one.
    • Brush the tops of the pinwheels with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  6. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pinwheels are puffed and golden brown.
  7. Serve:
    • Allow the pinwheels to cool slightly before serving.
    • Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
