Purple Velvet Cake Recipe

Servings: 12


2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar


1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon fine salt

1 teaspoon cocoa powder

1 1/2 cups vegetable oil

1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature


2 large eggs, at room temperature

2 tablespoons (1 ounce) purple food coloring

1 teaspoon white vinegar, distilled

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cream cheese frosting (homemade or (store-bought) Instructions:

Directions: Oven Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Grease, flour, and line two 9″ round cake pans with parchment.

Mix dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder in a large one Whisk bowl.Mix wet

ingredients: In another bowl, stir together oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vinegar and vanilla until well


Combine: Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ones and stir until smooth.


Baking: Divide the dough between the tins and bake for about 30 minutes. Transfer to molds and then let cool on

a rack.

Frost: After cooling, freeze with cream cheese frosting.Decorate as desired.
