 Ingredients

 For the Cake:

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 4 large eggs

  • 1 cup buttermilk

 Directions

  1. Preheat the oven:
    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.

  2. Mix dry ingredients:
    In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. Cream butter and sugar:
    In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

    Beat in the eggs one at a time. Add orange zest, orange juice, and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.

    Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

    Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

  8. Prepare the frosting:
    In a bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, orange juice, and vanilla. Beat until smooth and spreadable.

  9. Assemble the cake:
    Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous layer of orange marmalade over it.
    Top with the second cake layer. Spread the frosting evenly over the top and sides of the cake.

  10. Decorate:
    Garnish with fresh orange slices if desired.

  • For extra moistness, brush the cake layers with a little extra orange juice before assembling.
