Recipe for Homemade Beef Egg Rolls

These homemade beef egg rolls are crispy, flavorful, and perfect as an appetizer or snack. They are filled with seasoned ground beef, vegetables, and wrapped in a crunchy shell. Here’s how to make them:

For the Filling:

1 pound ground beef

1 cup shredded cabbage

1/2 cup shredded carrots

1/2 cup finely chopped onion

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

1 teaspoon sesame oil

Salt and pepper to taste

For the Egg Rolls:

1 package egg roll wrappers

1 egg, beaten (for sealing)

Vegetable oil (for frying)

Sweet and sour sauce, for dipping

Prepare the Filling:

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.

Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Stir in the shredded cabbage and carrots. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender.

Add the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.

Remove the skillet from the heat and let the filling cool slightly.

Assemble the Egg Rolls:

Place an egg roll wrapper on a clean, flat surface with one corner pointing towards you (like a diamond shape).

Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the filling onto the center of the wrapper.

Fold the bottom corner up over the filling, then fold in the two side corners.

Roll up the wrapper tightly towards the top corner, brushing a little beaten egg on the top corner to seal the roll.

Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.

Fry the Egg Rolls:

In a large, deep skillet or frying pan, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

Fry the egg rolls in batches, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch.

Remove the egg rolls with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Serve the egg rolls hot with sweet and sour sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Vegetable Variations: Feel free to add other vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, or bean sprouts to the filling.

Baking Option: For a healthier option, you can bake the egg rolls at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

Freezing: These egg rolls can be frozen before frying. Simply place the assembled egg rolls on a baking sheet, freeze until solid, and then transfer to a freezer-safe bag. Fry from frozen, adding a couple of extra minutes to the cooking time.

Enjoy your homemade beef egg rolls, a delicious and satisfying treat perfect for any occasion!
