4. Spoon cream cheese mixture over cake. Don’t be too perfect, remember: We are making an edible
earthquake!
5. Sprinkle with chopped herbs, chocolate chips, coconut and nuts (if using). Accept the exception; like
confetti on the cake!
6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center
comes out clean (it may pass through a fork, so test a small piece).
7. Let the cake cool for at least 20 minutes before removing it. I know this wait can be torture, but it’s
worth it!
Variations and Tips
– First, if strawberries aren’t your thing or are out of season, frozen berries or other fresh fruit like
raspberries will work!
– Chocolate fans might want to replace half of the dessert with dark chocolate or white chocolate for a
change.
– For a nut-free version, you can omit the nuts or replace them with a topping like graham cracker
crumbs.
– Gluten disease? There are many gluten-free bread mixes that fit this recipe.
– If you’re short on time, make pre-mixed cream cheese frosting or use rolled strawberries in the
batter for a quick fix.
